Old Cat Food Animated Short Film
Old Cat Food is a one-minute 3D animated cat food commercial. It is inspired by vintage, nostalgic advertising styles, while also incorporating a final twist and a metaphor with a slightly dark fairytale feel. The short creates a unique atmosphere that is both playful and eerie. Grotesque cat and mice dance together, while the cat food is promoted with almost fanatical enthusiasm.
Making Old Cat Food
The one-minute runtime gives the short a compact and direct narrative structure. As shown in the initial storyboards, the cat first seems to be cooking a nice meal and treating the mice kindly. But as the story goes on, it turns out that the mice are actually being fed so they can be eaten later. This twist also plays with the “real meat” idea used in the commercial, in a darkly humorous way. Set in a restaurant-like environment, the 3D modeling also adopts a simple, stylized look, keeping the visual language easy to read.
